Mine is red, rather than orange, and I'm planning to put it it more or less just inside my door. There is no actual coat closet in the entrance, although there is, further down the hall, an enormous closet, with shelves and two bars, which I intend to use for other-than-coats. So I really need a coat rack, no?
Well, I wanted one, anyhow. I first saw this in an Apartment Therapy article on "landing strips" *, which is what they call the place where you enter your apartment, deposit your keys, slosh your snowy boots around, and drop your parcels. The rack is from Urban Outfitters , which is not generally my cup of tea, though it can be fun. No denying that this little number is a tad on the whimsical side.
But I liked the idea of it in red, against my strange hallway wallpaper, which you can see in the post just before this one. I think I still need a place to put my keys and drop the mail. Or maybe I don't, as around the corner there is a little built in telephone shelf, under the ancient intercom. But really, that is for the phone, and anyway, it's not quite big enough. I am open to clever suggestions.
*While I was checking for the url, I noticed a recent AT post on "What is Your Homecoming Routine?", which seemed pleasantly co-incidental. I have grown quite fond of Apartment Therapy, though it is clearly aimed at a much younger, more modernist and design-ier sort of person than myself. The tone is sweetly enthusiastic and it is pretty much poseur-free, except for the occasional smug commenter. And while there is stuff I'm not crazy about, it ranges pretty widely, and there are lots of good ideas, IMHO.
Just found my way over here from Toast. I love your new place! There are so many gorgeous 'character' aspects -- nothing cookie cutter here! The beautiful stairway, the elevator, the 'shutters' inside, those cute windows on either side of the door in the kitchen, the new wood floors are beautiful, the fireplace and built-ins - it's lovely and I look forward to reading more about your new home!

Hello N. Thank you. I too particularly love those windows you noticed by the kitchen door. I feel really lucky to be able to move here.
