Colors

Well, this is just not right. I wanted to set out the paint colors I'm using, but the calibration is just too uncertain on the computer. Also, the images keep rearranging themselves, willy-nilly. So they are gone for now, until I can figure out this nonsense.

If you have a Benjamin Moore fandeck, you can get an  idea. (Not so crazy that a person might have one, I have one or two that I bought on ebay, before I even saw the apartment. They are a handy color-matching tool in a general way. Also, I lend them to friends who like to mull over their color choices at leisure.)

  The  colors were all looking wimpier, and more pastel than  on the chips, or in the little sample cans I ordered to make sure about them. Also, on my computer, at least, they are a mite pinker, and less green than they should be.  They are: Tapestry Beige (living room), Nottingham Green (my bedroom), Cottonballs-semi-gloss (all trim, allover, including fireplace and bookcases),Stuart Gold (dining room and back wall of bookcases) and Timothy Grass...for the 2nd bedroom, which is receiving partial attention...more on that later.

The colors have much to do with my living room rug, which is an oriental patterned 9X12, with quite a bit of red and some green on a beige background . There's some gold and a wee bit of blue in it, too.  I've got a red chair and a green chair, and a taupey-beige sofa with red welting,...well, you'll see. I'm planning pretty intensively, but am bound to have made mistakes I can only dream of.

All of the wallpaper is coming down, except for the red, bandana-ish wall paper in the entry and hall, which I am keeping because I kind of like it, and in any case, as with the bathroom wallpaper, because I can't afford to do it yet. The trim in the entry and hall are getting freshened up, too.

I am not generally in favor of walls in beige- my present living room is basically the color of a paper bag, and I thought I'd go for something similar in the living room. But it just looked sickly somehow, when I tried it in there, the room is so flooded with light. Then I read somewhere that it is useless trying to do saturated color in very sunlit places, so I tried a bit of the tapestry beige , and it seemed to work. In real-light, it also looks pretty good with the dining room gold...at least as to the samples, so I'm crossing my fingers that I will like it.

I was going to leave the 2nd bedroom alone, as I had not budgeted for it, but it has terrible, dire fake piney cheapo wallmounted shelving that is just unbearable...as well as peeling wallpaper. So, on the advice of Diane the Painter, I'm springing for scraping, and paint on the walls and ceiling- woodwork to be tackled later. I think she's very right..it would be worse, left alone, next to the newly painted areas.

Anyhow, the painters will be finishing outside work while the weather is nice, and be at my place when it rains, snows or freezes. So I'm in the unusual position of hoping for the inclement. They have promised, come what may, to be done before thanksgiving week, when I'm scheduled to move in.

Ah, the trials and tribulations of paint-choices. I do like your selections and it recalled my own favourite BM colours which have followed me from house-to-house. Marblehead Gold HC11, right next to your Stuart Gold, Lindy. Roasted Sesame Seed - 2160-40 and Hillsborough Beige CC330. I once had a dining room in Raspberry Truffle 2080-10 which was as juicy and rich as it sounds.

Good decision to paint the second bedroom ... it would haunt you otherwise. Diane sounds great!
